On World EV Day, Tata Announces Cheapest Electric Car

On World EV Day (September 9), Tata Motors announced that it plans to launch India’s cheapest electric car with a price tag below Rs 12 lakh.

The hatchback electric vehicle - Tiago Electric - will be in a segment lower than Tigor EV. Tigor EV is currently available at a starting price of Rs 12.49 lakh while Nexon EV start at Rs 14.99 lakh. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. Indicated that Tiago Electric could start from under Rs 12 lakh. Tata Motors has also got plans to launch Altroz Electric in the future.

Chandra said during the announcement: “World EV Day is indeed a special day for us, as we look back and reflect on our journey so far. We are proud to lead the EV market in India, with a lion’s share of 88%. As early entrants, we have shaped the market and seen it grow with Nexon EV and Tigor EV. Leveraging group synergies, we have also established Tata UniEVerse, a one of its kind EV ecosystem, which is further propelling the EV adoption.”
