Tamil Nadu, May 12th, 2025: Mobis India, a subsidiary of Hyundai, has opened a new, advanced factory in Sriperumbudur and announced plans to manufacture battery systems for electric vehicles.
This new facility will help India’s ongoing efforts to increase the use of clean, environmentally friendly transport across the country. The factory will concentrate on assembling critical battery parts for EVs, thereby supporting the transition from traditional fuel-powered vehicles to greener electric options.
TN Industry Minister Dr. T R B Rajaa officially opened the modern 8.15-acre facility, which will produce advanced Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery systems for Hyundai’s electric vehicles, beginning with the upcoming CRETA Electric.
With its robotic precision, environmentally friendly manufacturing, and future plans to manufacture Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery packs, the plant has established a new standard for next-generation battery technology.
The facility is expected to create 255 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the growth of Tamil Nadu’s industrial ecosystem. Its proximity to Hyundai’s car manufacturing plant strengthens the state’s position as India’s primary EV production hub.
“This supports Honourable Chief Minister MK Stalin’s vision of a $1 trillion economy and strengthens Tamil Nadu’s position as India’s EV capital,” Minister Rajaa said during the inauguration.
