National, April 23, 2026: Amara Raja Energy & Mobility (ARE&M) has become one of the first companies in India to surpass 1 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of cumulative lithium energy storage deployment in the telecom sector. Spanning over 50,000 sites nationwide, this milestone cements the company’s leadership position, with over 35% cumulative market share in the telecom battery segment. This achievement marks a defining moment in India’s energy transition—demonstrating that distributed lithium-based energy storage can be reliably deployed and operated at scale across diverse and demanding Indian conditions. It also lays a strong foundation for the company’s next phase of growth, as it expands into high-potential segments such as data centres, industrial applications, and large-scale energy storage, with a target of reaching 2 GWh by 2026.
The milestone reflects ARE&M’s strategic repositioning as a chemistry-agnostic energy solutions provider, capable of delivering advanced storage technologies tailored to evolving market needs. This comes at a time when India’s energy demand is undergoing a structural shift, driven by the rapid rollout of 5G networks, accelerated expansion of data centre capacity, and increasing integration of renewable energy sources. With lithium storage technologies approaching lifecycle cost parity with conventional systems—while offering significantly higher efficiency and performance—the country’s energy storage ecosystem is entering a new phase of scale and adoption. Backed by national targets of 236 GWh by 2032 and strong policy momentum, energy storage is increasingly emerging as a critical infrastructure layer supporting India’s digital and clean energy ambitions.
By successfully deploying distributed lithium storage across thousands of telecom sites, Amara Raja provides a robust, real-world validation of scalability and reliability. This positions the company at the forefront of enabling resilient, efficient, and future-ready energy systems across sectors. Commenting on the milestone, M.M. Venkata Krishna, Business Head – Industrial Batteries, ARE&M, said: “Crossing 1 GWh is a significant operational milestone, but more importantly, it establishes a strong foundation for future growth. The scale, systems, and execution capabilities we have built in the telecom sector position us well to expand into adjacent segments such as data centres, industrial applications, and commercial infrastructure.”
Harshavardhana Gourineni, Executive Director, ARE&M, added: “This milestone reflects a broader transition underway in India’s energy ecosystem. Energy storage is evolving from a support function to a core infrastructure layer—driven by digitisation, electrification, and renewable integration. While the shift from conventional technologies will be gradual, it is now clearly underway.”
As India accelerates its transition across telecom, data centres, industrial infrastructure, and renewable energy integration, the demand for proven, scalable storage solutions continues to rise. Amara Raja’s 1 GWh milestone—achieved across thousands of distributed sites—demonstrates a scalable, India-built model for advanced energy storage, positioning the company at the centre of one of the country’s most critical infrastructure transformations.
