Ashok Leyland has recently launched its new manufacturing facility in Vijayawada, dedicated to the production of diesel buses and electric buses under the Switch Mobility brand. With an annual production capacity of 4,800 buses, this state-of-the-art facility also has an advanced service training center and a contemporary learning center called Nalanda.
At the inauguration, company representatives stated that the construction of this facility is anticipated to be a significant factor in improving job and skill development prospects for the local population. The plant is designed as a green facility with sustainability goals, with features such as LED lighting, rooftop solar panels, battery-operated vehicles for internal logistics, zero-discharge systems, and measures to maintain a positive water balance.
The 75-acre plant, which is situated in Malavalli, about 40 kilometers from Vijayawada, uses state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques to guarantee that world-class quality standards are met.

Ashok Leyland Chairman Dheeraj G. Hinduja was enthusiastic about the company’s long-standing relationship with Andhra Pradesh, citing the progressive industrial policies of Chief Minister Shri Chandrababu Naidu as inspiration, during the inauguration. The opening of Ashok Leyland’s new facility, he said, marks a significant turning point for the company in the state and reaffirmed the Group’s commitment to fostering economic growth, job creation, and regional prosperity.
Furthermore, Ashok Leyland’s MD and CEO, Mr. Shenu Agarwal, stated that the new plant will strengthen the company’s standing as the top bus brand in India and one of the top five worldwide. Production has started, and due to a significant backlog of orders, the facility will soon be operating at full capacity.
