Bengaluru, May 19, 2026: Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has achieved a major milestone in India’s electrification journey, with cumulative sales of over 3 lakh hybrid vehicles in the country. The achievement underscores the growing acceptance of hybrid technology among Indian consumers and reinforces Toyota’s leadership in sustainable mobility. The milestone reflects increasing customer preference for Toyota’s Self-Charging Hybrid Electric Vehicle (SHEV) technology, which offers a combination of superior fuel efficiency, lower emissions, enhanced driving performance and hassle-free ownership. It also highlights strong customer confidence in Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality.
With more than three decades of global hybrid expertise, Toyota has been at the forefront of practical electrification. Worldwide, the company has sold over 38 million electrified vehicles, helping avoid more than 197 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. In India, Toyota’s hybrid portfolio includes the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Innova HyCross, Camry Hybrid and Vellfire. Commenting on the achievement, Sabari Manohar, Executive Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “We are immensely proud to cross the milestone of 3 lakh hybrid vehicle sales in India, which reflects the growing trust customers have placed in Toyota’s self-charging hybrid technology. Our philosophy of mass electrification is centred on delivering practical, scalable and inclusive mobility solutions. Hybrid technology serves as an effective bridge to a cleaner future by allowing customers to adopt electrification seamlessly without compromising on performance, convenience or reliability.”
He added that the milestone further strengthens Toyota’s commitment to supporting India’s transition toward carbon neutrality through environmentally responsible mobility solutions. Toyota’s hybrid technology combines a petrol engine with an advanced electric motor to deliver strong performance and high fuel efficiency. The system intelligently switches between and blends both power sources, enabling the vehicle to operate in electric mode for a significant portion of city driving. The battery recharges automatically through regenerative braking and engine power, eliminating the need for external charging and removing concerns about range.
To reinforce customer confidence, Toyota offers an 8-year warranty on hybrid batteries, underscoring the reliability and durability of its hybrid systems. Guided by its vision of “Mass Happiness to All,” Toyota continues to promote a broad range of electrified technologies, including Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) and flex-fuel vehicles. Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi, Karnataka, with a combined installed production capacity of 3,42,000 units per year. The company employs over 6,600 people and manufactures key models such as the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Legender, Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Hilux. Other models sold in India include the Glanza, Rumion and Urban Cruiser Taisor.
