Bengaluru, April 21, 2026: On Earth Day 2026, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to building a carbon-neutral future, guided by the theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. With sustainability at its core, the company is accelerating decisive action—embedding environmental responsibility across its products, manufacturing, and the broader mobility ecosystem. Aligned with Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, TKM is driving a bold, holistic agenda spanning clean mobility, green supply chains, renewable energy adoption, water stewardship, circular economy practices, and biodiversity conservation. At the heart of this effort lies an ambitious goal: achieving carbon-neutral manufacturing operations by 2035.
In a rapidly transforming mobility landscape, TKM is championing a multi-pathway approach to electrification—delivering diverse, practical, and scalable clean mobility solutions. By aligning cutting-edge technologies with India’s unique energy mix and infrastructure realities, the company is enabling low-emission mobility that is both accessible and impactful. Its forward-looking pilots in Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) and Electrified FlexFuel Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) underscore a clear intent—to power a cleaner, more secure, and Atmanirbhar energy future while reducing dependence on imports.
This commitment extends far beyond products. For five consecutive years, TKM’s manufacturing facilities have operated on 100% renewable grid electricity—eliminating Scope 2 emissions entirely and setting a powerful benchmark for sustainable industrial growth. Across its value chain, the company is embedding environmental excellence, from suppliers to shop floors. TKM is also reimagining logistics with purpose. Today, 24% of CBU transportation is routed via rail, cutting emissions significantly, while EV truck pilots for short-haul logistics are driving further reductions—amounting to nearly 950 tCO₂e annually.
Water stewardship remains a defining pillar of TKM’s sustainability journey. Nearly 89% of its water needs are met through rainwater harvesting and recycling. Guided by its 4R philosophy—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recharge—the company is steadily advancing towards water positivity with discipline and intent. Championing circularity, TKM has achieved over 96% waste recycling and continues to maintain Zero Waste-to-Landfill status across its manufacturing plants. Through initiatives such as end-of-life vehicle management and resource optimisation, it is reshaping how materials are used—responsibly and efficiently—throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
Equally, its commitment to the planet is reflected in its thriving biodiversity efforts. Through the Toyota Green Wave Project, TKM has cultivated a vibrant ecosystem with over 650 plant species and 468 faunal species. The initiative has already sequestered 8,118 tCO₂e, while its 25-acre Ecozone continues to inspire young minds—reaching over 10,095 students this year alone and more than 62,729 to date.
Beyond its own operations, TKM is catalysing change across the entire ecosystem. Through deep collaboration with suppliers, dealers, and logistics partners, the company is driving meaningful carbon reductions across the mobility lifecycle—accelerating the shift towards cleaner fuels, smarter logistics, and greener practices. Mr. B. Padmanabha, Executive Vice President, Manufacturing, TKM, said:
“On Earth Day 2026, we reaffirm our commitment to ‘Our Power, Our Planet’—a belief that meaningful change begins with decisive action. At Toyota Kirloskar Motor, sustainability is not an initiative; it is a responsibility we live every day. Achieving 100% renewable electricity usage for five consecutive years and eliminating Scope 2 emissions reflects our conviction that progress and planet can—and must—move forward together.”
As India advances towards energy independence and a low-carbon future, TKM remains firmly focused on scaling impact through innovation, collaboration, and responsible growth. With continued investments in future-ready technologies, including hydrogen and alternative fuels, the company is not just adapting to change—it is helping lead it. Because for Toyota Kirloskar Motor, every action matters—every innovation counts—and every step brings us closer to a cleaner, greener, and more resilient future.
