Michigan/India, May 9: BorgWarner Inc. has secured three new electric motor (eMotor) contracts from leading automotive manufacturers in China and South Korea, reinforcing its position as a key technology partner in Asia’s rapidly expanding electrified vehicle market. The awards span battery electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid vehicle applications, and are expected to enter production in phases from June 2026 through September 2027.The latest wins underscore BorgWarner’s growing momentum in electrification and highlight the increasing adoption of its advanced motor technologies across key vehicle platforms in Asia.
In South Korea, the company will supply stator assemblies for a new B-segment electric SUV program. The award builds on BorgWarner’s successful track record with the customer, for whom it previously supplied hairpin eMotor technology for a multi-purpose vehicle platform. Production is scheduled to begin in September 2027.
In China, BorgWarner has secured a major order for its patented S-winding technology, which will be used in a P2 electric motor for global plug-in hybrid vehicle platforms powered by 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged engines. The technology delivers high power density and packaging efficiency, making it well suited to modern hybrid drivetrains. Production is expected to commence in February 2027.
The company has also won business to supply generator motors for a three-speed hybrid transmission system in China. The motors will feature BorgWarner’s ultra-short hairpin winding technology, which improves efficiency, enables more compact packaging and ensures dependable performance. Production for this program is set to begin in June 2026 and will support both domestic and export-oriented vehicle programs. Commenting on the development, Stefan Demmerle, Vice President of BorgWarner and President and General Manager of PowerDrive Systems, said the awards reflect customers’ confidence in the company’s engineering capabilities, localized manufacturing footprint and ability to deliver scalable, high-efficiency motor technologies.
He noted that BorgWarner’s patented S-winding design combines peak performance with enhanced power efficiency in a compact package and that its application is now expanding into hybrid vehicle programs. The latest contracts further strengthen BorgWarner’s electrification portfolio and reinforce its role as a strategic supplier to automakers as demand for electric and hybrid vehicles continues to accelerate across Asia.
