India’s automotive industry raced ahead in the third quarter of FY 2025–26, sustaining its growth momentum with strong demand across Passenger Vehicles, Two-Wheelers, Three-Wheelers, and Commercial Vehicles. The latest State and Union Territory-wise data paints a dynamic picture of regional strength, rising consumer confidence, and accelerating mobility demand across both personal and commercial segments.
Passenger Vehicles: Western India Sets the Pace
Passenger Vehicle (PV) sales surged to 12.76 lakh units nationwide in Q3 FY 2025–26, reflecting resilient urban demand and expanding aspirations in emerging markets. The Western Zone led from the front with 4.21 lakh units, underlining its dominance in high-value automotive markets. At the state level, Maharashtra retained its crown as India’s largest PV market with 1.58 lakh units, powered by strong economic activity, rapid urbanization, and infrastructure expansion. Uttar Pradesh followed closely, benefiting from rising disposable incomes and growing urban clusters. Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu also posted solid volumes, reinforcing their strategic importance in India’s passenger vehicle growth story.
Two-Wheelers: Powering Mass Mobility
The Two-Wheeler segment continued to anchor the industry, clocking an impressive 56.96 lakh units during the quarter. The Western Zone once again emerged as the top contributor with 19.06 lakh units, highlighting broad-based regional demand. Uttar Pradesh led the nation with 8.62 lakh units, reflecting the critical role of two-wheelers in enabling affordable and flexible mobility, especially in semi-urban and rural markets. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu followed with strong performances, supported by deep dealer penetration and consistent consumer traction. Gujarat and Bihar also featured prominently, signaling expanding demand beyond major metros.
Three-Wheelers: Driving Last-Mile Growth
Three-Wheeler sales reached 2.15 lakh units in Q3 FY 2025–26, buoyed by rising demand for last-mile connectivity and small-scale commercial transport. The Western Zone led regional sales with 0.68 lakh units, reflecting vibrant trade and intra-city movement. Gujarat topped the national charts with 0.25 lakh units, driven by its strong industrial ecosystem and logistics activity. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Bihar followed, demonstrating the segment’s growing importance in supporting urban mobility and small business operations.
Commercial Vehicles: Riding on Infrastructure and Logistics Momentum
Commercial Vehicle (CV) sales stood at 2.90 lakh units during the quarter, signaling steady economic activity and expanding freight demand. The Western Zone once again led the way with 1.11 lakh units, highlighting its role as a logistics and industrial powerhouse. Maharashtra recorded the highest CV volumes at 0.46 lakh units, supported by ongoing infrastructure projects, construction growth, and rising goods movement. It was followed by Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, all benefiting from industrial expansion and supply chain activity. Overall, Q3 FY 2025–26 reflects a vibrant and well-distributed growth story across India’s automotive landscape. The Western Zone maintained leadership across segments, while large states such as Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh continued to anchor national volumes. With strong consumer sentiment, infrastructure-led demand, and expanding regional markets, India’s mobility engine remains firmly in high gear.
