New Delhi, July 5, 2026: Tata Motors Ltd., India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has partnered with Welspun Renewable Energy Private Limited (WREPL) to develop an 86 MW wind-solar hybrid renewable energy project, marking another significant step in its journey towards sustainable manufacturing and net-zero emissions. Under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the hybrid project will supply renewable electricity to Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle manufacturing facilities in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka. The project is expected to generate nearly 200 million units of clean energy annually, helping offset more than 1.4 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year.
Developed through a co-investment model, the project will provide a reliable and consistent supply of green power, supporting Tata Motors’ RE100 commitment of sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2030 while accelerating its broader sustainability and net-zero goals. The initiative also reinforces the company’s focus on reducing the environmental footprint of its manufacturing operations through large-scale adoption of renewable energy.
Commenting on the partnership, Vishal Badshah, Vice President – Operations, Tata Motors Ltd., said, “This project reflects Tata Motors’ continued commitment to building greener, more energy-efficient manufacturing operations. The integrated wind-solar hybrid solution will ensure a reliable supply of renewable energy to our key manufacturing facilities while significantly reducing carbon emissions. Strategic collaborations like these are essential in helping us achieve our RE100 commitment and advance our net-zero ambitions.”
Speaking on the collaboration, Kapil Maheshwari, Managing Director & CEO, Welspun Renewable Energy Private Limited, said, “Our partnership with Tata Motors is an important milestone in Welspun’s renewable energy journey. Beyond signing a Power Purchase Agreement, we are creating a scalable model for industrial decarbonisation that can help large manufacturers accelerate their sustainability goals. We look forward to building a long-term partnership while continuing to develop resilient, future-ready renewable energy infrastructure for India’s industrial sector.” The partnership underscores the growing role of renewable energy in India’s industrial transformation and highlights how strategic collaborations between manufacturing and clean energy companies can drive meaningful progress towards a low-carbon economy.
