The Chinese automaker and world’s largest EV manufacturer to exhibit at Delhi Auto Expo 23
According to latest media reports, BYD, the world's largest EV manufacturer, is set to enter the world's third largest automobile market with an electric SUV. This is not the first foray by the Chinese car manufacturers. The last Auto Expo saw two of China's largest automakers—Great Wall Motors (GWM) and FAW Haima—announce their intention to sell vehicles in India across all sectors, including the electric vehicle (EV) market in its infancy. However, India's strict scrutiny of investments from China has made it difficult for Chinese automobile makers to set up manufacturing bases in India.
The announcement that Warren Buffet-backed Chinese electric manufacturer will soon be entering the Indian market has sparked a lot of interest. The company plans to sell 10,000 assembled vehicles in Sriperumbudur near Chennai in the next two years and is also looking to set up a local manufacturing facility and hire 100 more employees.
BYD, which overtook Tesla earlier this year, will be exhibiting various items, including hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs, as well as the renowned Blade battery technology, which has a range of over 450 to 500 kilometres. The company has already sold 450 E6 MPV vehicles to corporate and fleet clients last year and plans to sell a further 1000 more.
