The Chetan Maini-founded battery swapping major, Sun Mobility has emerged as India's first Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) certified battery swapping provider to get its swapping station equipment validated to the latest standards.
With the government's battery swapping policy yet to be notified, currently, there is no set benchmark for battery swapping stations.
Sun Mobility also received certification for its swappable battery pack as per the latest applicable standard AIS 156 from ARAI which the company claims makes its battery pack one of the safest in India.
All safety and electrical tests, such as battery pack overcharge, over-discharge, fire resistance, short circuit, mechanical and thermal shock, vibration, and drop test, were performed at ARAI by the AIS 156 Standard.
Sun Mobility has deployed over 115 swap points in more than 18 cities in India and has done over 1.8 million swaps in the country so far. The battery swap major had recently announced a strategic partnership with 'LetsTransport' to deploy 100 electric three-wheeler cargo vehicles in Delhi-NCR and Bangalore with the option to scale up its fleet to over 2,000 vehicles shortly
