AUSTRALIA: 29th May 2025: The bZ4X electric SUV, which is essentially a full-scale Subaru Outback EV, is about to be introduced by Toyota Motor Corporation in the Australian market. Chasing Cars’ editor, Jez Spinks, stated that Toyota, which holds a 20% market share in Australia, intends to launch this car in the second half of 2026.

The bZ4X is currently part of Toyota’s global battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineup, which is expected to grow to about 15 models by 2027, some of which will be sold under the Lexus name. The creation of the RZ, a Lexus pure battery EV, is another aspect of this expansion.
Toyota provides a variety of hybrid and plug-in hybrid automobiles, such as the Prius, RAV4, Corolla, and Highlander. However, the company is taking a slower approach to introducing its global electric SUVs in India, opting instead to launch a badged version of the Maruti E-Vitara in the second half of 2025.

Toyota has a multifaceted strategy for India that includes plug-in hybrids, flex-fuel vehicles, and electric vehicles rather than just focusing on pure EVs. In addition to investigating battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrid technology is being heavily emphasized as a workable solution for the Indian market.
Going back to the bZ4X Touring SUV, it is the most potent Toyota SUV to date with 280kW of dual-motor all-wheel drive power. With the pre-conditioning system and the upgraded 74.7 kWh battery pack, a 450–500 km driving range is anticipated.

“The bZ4X will come with long-lasting battery quality, durability, and reliability guaranteed,” reads a press release from Toyota Motor Europe. With Toyota’s Battery Care Programme, if a battery health check is performed annually, the battery can be covered for up to 10 years or one million kilometres.
Furthermore, despite its station wagon-like design, the bZ4X is Toyota’s answer to the Subaru Trailseeker, which is based on the well-liked Outback. In addition to having a rear overhang that is 14 cm longer than that of the standard SUV model, the bZ4X with a single motor and front-wheel drive will have 165 kW of power, an increase of 15 kW.
Although it’s unclear when Toyota will introduce the bZ4X to India, we at EV Story hope it happens soon.
