Mumbai, March 8, 2025: Zomato has launched ‘Project Arya’ in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to empower women through self-help groups (SHGs) in the food delivery industry. This initiative aligns with Zomato’s commitment to International Women’s Day, aiming to provide women with opportunities for financial independence and active engagement in the business sector.
This partnership is the first instance of a municipal corporation working alongside a food delivery service. Women in Mumbai’s T Ward in Mulund will benefit from free registration, training, safety protocols, and insurance coverage provided by Zomato.
The initiative encompasses various support measures, including scholarships for the children of participating women, accident and maternity insurance, family insurance, two days of leave during menstruation, complimentary safety gear, and additional family-related benefits.
Currently, training sessions are underway in Mulund, focusing on app registration and specialized training for riding electric two-wheelers for interested women, as noted by BMC’s Director of Planning, Prachi Jambhekar.
Additionally, Zomato will offer self-defense training and implement a mobile app feature for sending emergency SOS alerts to enhance safety.
BMC’s Municipal Commissioner, Bhushan Gagrani, and Zomato’s CEO for the Mumbai Division, Umesh Ahuja, have been actively involved in the development of this project, as confirmed by senior officials from the company.
