NEW DELHI, 11th September 2025 – Mission Viksit Bharat 2047 set the tone at the 65th SIAM( Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) Annual Convention, where industry leaders and policymakers came together to align on strategies for advancing India’s sustainable, smart, and self-reliant mobility future.
In a special message to the convention, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, emphasised the strategic need to build self-reliance across the entire automotive manufacturing value chain. Highlighting India’s growing influence in the global mobility ecosystem, he said, “As the nation advances towards global leadership in green and smart transportation, opportunities for investment and collaboration are immense.”
The convention was attended by key dignitaries from the Government of India. Chief Guest Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, outlined the Government’s comprehensive approach to sustainable mobility and infrastructure growth. “As world’s 3rd largest automobile industry, India needs to focus on providing comfortable public transportation. We will maintain global alignment on BS7 and CAFE norms to address air pollution issues. In addition, moving to bio fuels helps in reducing India’s crude imports and enhances farmer incomes. More than 3 lakh vehicles have been scrapped following the implementation of the scrappage policy, benefiting industry, government, and environment,” he stated.
He further highlighted key focus areas for logistics and road safety. “Logistic cost will come down to single digit by year end. Road safety remains crucial. Therefore, public campaigns and NGO engagement is essential to improve human behaviour to prevent accidents. For those aiding road accident victims, Rs. 25,000 will be awarded to ‘Rahaveers’ in addition to providing insurance up to 1.5 Lacs to accident victims.”
Guest of Honour H. D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, underlined the importance of manufacturing-led innovation under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. He noted that companies have already invested over Rs. 29,500 crore in capital towards green mobility and industrial transformation. The Ministry of Heavy Industries is collaborating closely with auto manufacturers to meet domestic sustainability goals, while the steel sector is working on specialised steel for the automotive industry to lower import dependency.
SIAM President and Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., Shailesh Chandra, reinforced the automotive sector’s alignment with the Government’s clean mobility vision. “The Indian automotive industry is fully aligned with the Government’s vision for sustainable, safe, and affordable mobility solutions. The Industry is grateful to the Government of India for landmark decision of reducing the GST rates on vehicles and thanked the Government for initiating the development of Automotive Mission Plan. The industry will work cohesively for our shared objective of Building the Nation, Responsibly.”
Shenu Agarwal, Vice President of SIAM and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ashok Leyland Ltd., expressed gratitude for the industry support. He thanked the Government for fostering a conducive ecosystem that enables long-term growth and competitiveness of the Indian automobile sector.
The convention reflected consensus that India stands at a decisive inflection point in green transportation. With forward-looking policy support and rapid industry innovation, the nation is poised to lead the global shift toward sustainable and smart mobility.
