Mahindra's multi-purpose Born Electric range built INGLO platform will support five electric SUVs under two EV brands with the first products to break cover by 2024. These products form a key part of the automaker’s vision for the future of electric mobility.

At the launch, Dr Anish Shah, Managing Director & CEO, Mahindra Group, said, “We are proud and delighted to showcase our Born Electric vision. It provides a strategic direction that is in line with our core philosophy of ‘Rise’ – to be an organisation that will be counted among the best in the world and at the same time rise for our planet to fight against climate change. Mahindra will offer customers future-ready technology, head-turning design, world-class products and the benefits of global partnerships. By 2027, we expect that a quarter of the SUVs we sell will be electric.”

Mahindra is keen to lead the electric mobility revolution in India by bringing authentic electric SUVs loaded with cutting-edge technology applications. To do this, three key strategic pillars -- Brand, Design and Technology have been identified that will be used.

The branding exercise for the EVs will bank on the XUV brand with the Twin Peak logo in Copper and the newly created electric-only brand called BE.

The automaker presented ideas for these two brands as five e-SUVs: the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09. The first four of these are to be launched between 2024 and 2026.

From the technology perspective, what goes underneath the new EV range that will sport Mahindra new Heartcore design philosophy will be the INGLO platform. This platform

encapsulates progressive battery technology, platform architecture, brain power and human machine interface.

INGLO platform will also help engineers to incorporate class-leading safety standards, performance features like semi-active suspension, rear-wheel or all-wheel drive configurations.

The automaker also announced that for the new EVs it will use different cutting-edge cell architectures like Blade and Prismatic. These packs will be offered with options ranging from 60-80 kWh battery capacity for long range travel per charge. In fact, 175 kWh fast-charge and charging up to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes will also be possible.

Power outputs of 170-210 kW and 250-290 kW will be available for the models in the forthcoming EV line-up. The automaker claims performance will be quite impressive with sprint time of zero to 100 kmph coming up in between 5 and 6 seconds.

Human-machine interface features will include heads-up display, edge-to-edge screen, 5G network capability and Over-The-Air updates for the EVs electronic management systems.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director – Auto and Farm Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “Our vision of Born Electric is underpinned by the future-ready INGLO platform, two new exciting brands and the Heartcore design philosophy. The five electric SUVs provide a powerful glimpse of our strategic direction and hews to the Mahindra attitude of a racing spirit and the attitude of adventure. We aim to not only electrify the roads but also the hearts and minds of SUV aficionados in India and around the world.”

The incoming electric SUVs will benefit from some components of Volkswagen’s Modular electric drive matrix (MEB) architecture. The new e-SUVs are being tested at the world’s largest battery development and testing centre. With 5 Radars-1 Vision ADAS architecture, INGLO is futureproofed up to L2+ autonomy, according to Mahindra & Mahindra.
