New Delhi, September 9, 2026: On World EV Day 2026, Eicher Trucks and Buses, a business unit of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating India’s transition towards sustainable and future-ready commercial mobility. The company has been steadily strengthening its electric mobility capabilities, with close to 2,000 Eicher electric trucks and buses across a wide range of applications. These include tarmac operations, school and staff transportation, city bus services and distribution, demonstrating the potential of electric commercial vehicles across diverse operating environments.
At the heart of Eicher’s electric mobility strategy is its ‘Pro Planet, Pro Business’ philosophy. The approach focuses on creating a balance between environmental responsibility and business performance, with electric mobility solutions designed to deliver energy efficiency and dependable performance while offering the potential for improved operating economics.
For commercial vehicle operators, the transition to cleaner mobility extends beyond reducing emissions. Productivity, reliability, operating costs and energy efficiency are equally important considerations. Eicher’s strategy therefore focuses on developing solutions that can deliver both environmental benefits and tangible business value, supporting customers in their transition to sustainable transportation.
Recognizing that charging infrastructure remains a key consideration in the adoption of electric commercial vehicles, Eicher Trucks and Buses has also been working to strengthen the supporting ecosystem. Through partnerships with leading Charging Point Operators (CPOs) across India, the company has integrated more than 20,000 EV charging points into its industry-leading My Eicher app. The connected platform is aimed at giving customers easier access to charging infrastructure and supporting a more seamless electric vehicle ownership and operating experience.
Eicher’s sustainability efforts extend beyond its electric vehicle portfolio to its manufacturing operations. During FY 2024-25, nearly 26% of the company’s total energy requirement was met through green energy sources, supported by a 14.2 MW Group Captive Power Purchase Agreement and 7.2 MW of rooftop solar capacity. The company has also introduced electric mobility into its own operations. Since last year, employees at Eicher Truck and Bus’ Pithampur facility have had the option of commuting to work in Eicher electric buses, offering them a quieter and air-conditioned alternative while providing a real-world demonstration of electric bus usage.
At its Bhopal operations, the company has implemented several water and resource conservation initiatives, including zero liquid discharge, water-saving systems and a 52-million-litre rainwater-harvesting reservoir, among other sustainability measures.
Eicher has maintained a focus on cleaner propulsion technologies and has consistently prepared for evolving emissions regulations. The company was among the early commercial vehicle manufacturers to showcase BS-VI vehicles in 2019 and has continued to expand its new-energy portfolio.
Alongside electric vehicles, Eicher is developing solutions powered by CNG and LNG, while also investing in emerging technologies such as hydrogen internal combustion engines (H2ICE) and hydrogen fuel cells.
As India progresses towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Eicher Trucks and Buses continues to align its future mobility strategy with broader national priorities, including energy self-reliance, cleaner transportation and sustainable economic growth. Its growing electric portfolio, charging ecosystem and investments in multiple alternative propulsion technologies underline the company’s long-term approach to building a cleaner and more resilient commercial transportation ecosystem.
